Fishing has been average around Homosassa this past week due to flat tides and a low pressure area hanging around for a week. The upcoming redfish tournament this weekend will see a little better than average tides. High tide is around 2:00 pm at the mouth of the Homosassa River.

This event will prove to be a lot of fun, and if you have not joined there is time. Grady Warren, tournament director, has waived the late fee throughout the Captains Meeting to increase the field. The field of boats is expected to reach about 60 and the pay-off is 100%. Warren stated that monies probably would be paid through 10 places instead of the usual 30 places, unless a 150-boat field is reached.

TOURNAMENT SITE

Note: You may launch from any private or public boat ramp within 50 miles of the tournament site.

PARTICIPANTS

• Team event for men, women and kids. The captain of the boat must be at least 16 years old.

ENTRY FEE/REGISTRATION

• $150.00 per boat for all mens teams. $125.00 per boat for all teams that include ladies or kids. Capacity not to exceed USCG regulations.
• You may sign up at the Captains Meeting, however the late entry fee is $30.00.
• Registration closes at 7PM, September 8th at the Captains Meeting.
• Registration fee is non-refundable.
• All participating boats will recieve an official decal which must be displayed in a prominent place at all times.

CAPTAIN'S MEETING

• Mandatory Captain's Meeting to be held September 8th, 2000 at 7PM at the tournament site, Homosassa Riverside Resort.
• Captains are responsible for knowing all rules.
• Rules may be amended by verbal or print materials at the Captain's Meeting.

CHECKOUT/CHECK-IN

• Checkout begins at safe light. Safe light time will be determined at Captain's Meeting.
• Checkout /check-in locations from which you may fish: all public and private ramps from Horseshoe Beach to Tarpon Springs.
• You may checkout from any one of the ramps you choose; however, the weigh-in will be held at Homosassa River Resort. You may travel to the weigh-in by boat or vehicle.
• For conservation purposes and a smoother traffic flow later in the day, you may begin weighing fish in at 11AM.
• You must be in the appropriate weigh-in line, whether by boat or vehicle, by 4:30PM.

FISHING

• A saltwater fishing license is required for all participants, and all fish must meet the size requirements of the Florida Marine Patrol.
• Legal fish are REDFISH. Two (2) per boat allowed from 18" to 27" in length.
• An eight-ounce penalty will be assessed for weighing dead fish.
• All means possible must be taken to insure the successful release of caught fish.
• Legal methods of catching fish are rod and reel only.
• You may troll, anchor, or drift live or artificial baits/lures. Also, you may wade fish from your boat.
• Any boat that is U.S. Coast Guard safe may be used, including canoes, but must have USCG equipment as required by law.
• You may fish with a maximum of six rods per boat at one time.

TOURNAMENT WITHIN A TOURNAMENT

• Entry fee is $25 per category and may be paid when you enter the tournament. TWT is not mandatory.
• Winnings pay 50% for 1st, 25% for 2nd and 10% for 3rd.

CONSERVATION

• In cooperation with the various marine conservation associations and the Inshore Fishing Association, we urge you to release fish that will not be entered in the tournament.
