Spotted seatrout fishing has been really red-hot for about a week. Several top local guides, and private recreational anglers as well, have been making catches of limits. In fact, most anglers have been getting their limit before noon. As long as the weather stays warm this trend will continue.

Old faithful remains to be the red cigar-shaped Cajun Thunder cork rig (although the chartreuse is easier to see). A 24-30 inch section of 25-pound test mono or fluorocarbon attached to the bottom end of the cork is step one of creating the rig. Step 2 is tying a 1/8 ounce Cotee live-eye action jig head in the color red with a universal knot.

Step 3 is inserting a plastic tail of your choice. This is where the experiment begins as far as color goes. Cotee makes dozens of patterns to choose from. I like root beer color with gold flake in the grub tail. The split-tail shrimp in white or green, which has twice the action, is also good.

Cotee makes a shad tail pattern and there are several choices to consider. Pearl white, glow, and gold. Cotee's swirl tail in motor oil and white are top choices as well.

Besides my favorites, other guides are using the Berkley Powerbaits in root beer or glow white. Mann's Stingray grubs in pink/white are the old guides' stand-by. Bass Assassin also makes salt water tails. The Love Lure, which is a tandem rig tied with two jigs together, is still a popular local favorite in pink, white, and chartreuse.

Remember if you are too busy to go fishing, you are just too busy!
